The Vicar writes…

Easter joy fills the universe! Thank you to everyone who made the celebrations of Holy Week and Easter so memorable – from the music and flowers to the refreshments, bells, serving, service attendance and so much more. Special highlights were the well-attended and moving special services for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, joining our fellow Christians on the green, a beautiful, initiate Easter vigil, our Easter Day worship and baptism and the wonderful send-off that the church gave me as I headed off to be married – thank you all.

As you know, David and I married on 23rd April. We are so grateful for all your kindness and your amazingly generous gifts and beautiful cards and wishes. We ask for your continuing prayers as we begin our married life together. I want to offer my grateful thanks to everyone for their generous support in the run-up to our wedding and for Frs Alan, Michael and Alastair as they take on additional duties during my leave.

In Holy Week, we watched as Notre Dame suffered huge fire damage. Church buildings are places of sanctuary and when they themselves are destroyed or damaged, or we can’t get to them, we can feel cut off. We pray with and for the people of Paris and all who find their churches destroyed or inaccessible through violence, fear or disaster. Our church buildings and the surrounding land are places of sanctuary in our community and we pray God will help us to find new and creative ways to make them even more accessible.

Our churchyard project is already enabling us to develop many connections in the community with neighbours, friends and other organisations. On 1st June there is the opportunity for a free first aid at work certified course, which is being run as part of the project. There are also dry-stone walling sessions starting at the end of May. Please speak to me for further information.

Throughout May our celebrations of Eastertide continue too, culminating in the feast of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ at the end of May. We are encouraged this year to continue to pray with our Archbishops as part of their “Thy Kingdom Come” campaign, praying for our nation and our communities.

With all good wishes, and every prayer for the Easter season. Alleluia!

Mother Penny
