July and August

The Vicar writes…

Three years in Newchurch have flown by since that rainy day when I was licensed by Bishop Mark in July 2016. A lot has happened over three years, in our own lives and in the life of our community. We have had much to celebrate and enjoy and there have been many times of sadness, when we have come together to support one another. Friends have joined us and have left us, there have been new opportunities and times when we have all had o accept our limits. God has been in all and remains in all.

We are blessed in so many ways in our parish, community and valley and for that we thank God and count our blessings. It takes all of us, each in our own way to support and sustain the life of the church, through work and prayer and I am grateful for the ways in which we do this together – we all have a part to play, however small or great.

As we go through the summer we pray that God will bless our times of rest and leisure and renew in us our energy and passion to serve him. I hope that the summer will be a good time for us to share in and enjoy one another’s company too. There is a church walk and lunch planned for August, with details to follow and Fr David and I would like to invite you to afternoon tea at The Rectory in Newchurch on Sunday 18th August between 3pm and 5pm. We hope that many of you will be able to be there. All are welcome.

In September we'll celebrate 193 years since the consecration of this building. We’ll begin to think further about our stewardship and giving to the life of the church and we’ll continue to consider how we build up the church, develop our prayer life, support our community and grow as disciples of Christ. There is much more that God calls us to do - but for now, let’s enjoy the summer together!

With prayers and best wishes,

Mother Penny
